Pin Grading

What is Pin Grading?

Pin grading is the process by which a shop classifies their pin quality and determines the value of the piece.

An A Grade pin can be classified in two ways:

  • Collector - no flaws whatsoever, as close to perfect as it is possible to get with handmade items.
  • Standard - few flaws if any, generally unnoticeable to the naked eye or located somewhere inconspicuous such as the back or sides of a pin

It is worth noting that this shop considers all A Grade pins to be Standard quality, and only preorders are guaranteed a Collector quality pin.

A B Grade or "Seconds" pin is a pin with minor flaws, including issues such as

  • misplaced enamel/glitter - flecks of colors on the wrong portion of the pin
  • small nicks or bumps
  • unexpectedly rough textures
  • small air bubbles

B Grade pins will be sold at a slight discount by this shop.

A C Grade pin, sometimes known as a "Defective" pin is a pin with major or more noticeable flaws, including issues such as

  • missing or incorrectly colored enamel
  • misplaced lines
  • poorly filed edges
  • large nicks or bumps
  • large air bubbles

C Grade pins will be more heavily discounted in this shop, in proportion to their flaws.
