What is Pin Grading?
Pin grading is the process by which a shop classifies their pin quality and determines the value of the piece.
An A Grade pin can be classified in two ways:
- Collector - no flaws whatsoever, as close to perfect as it is possible to get with handmade items.
-
Standard - few flaws if any, generally unnoticeable to the naked eye or located somewhere inconspicuous such as the back or sides of a pin
It is worth noting that this shop considers all A Grade pins to be Standard quality, and only preorders are guaranteed a Collector quality pin.
A B Grade or "Seconds" pin is a pin with minor flaws, including issues such as
- misplaced enamel/glitter - flecks of colors on the wrong portion of the pin
- small nicks or bumps
- unexpectedly rough textures
- small air bubbles
B Grade pins will be sold at a slight discount by this shop.
A C Grade pin, sometimes known as a "Defective" pin is a pin with major or more noticeable flaws, including issues such as
- missing or incorrectly colored enamel
- misplaced lines
- poorly filed edges
- large nicks or bumps
- large air bubbles
C Grade pins will be more heavily discounted in this shop, in proportion to their flaws.
